I get it. You're busy.
It's hard to cram everything in and still have time for your art. It's called life. Everyone's living it and as my 10-year old daughter says: "Life happens."
It just does. Unexpected phone calls come in. Laundry needs to be done. Family or friends require your time. Of course, there's always work to be done!
Here's a picture that sums up my responsibilities this week.
Sometimes you always see art studios imaculately staged - paint brushes, here...big easel there OR splatters of color over here, a big mess over there and it makes you think that is all the artist ever does.
The truth is that every person who creates art is living with other responsibilities as well.
This picture is a reflection how art making can fuse with weekly responsibilities such as laundry. It's real life. My messy living room symbolizing our sometimes (or often) messy lives.
Laundry + art are happening at the same time. Taking care of people + art are happening at the same time.
It might not be as neat as you want it to be, but it's definitely possible.
Life situations will never be ideal to start that perfect project you have in mind.
Something always come up.
That project happens the minute you decide to make it part of your life. The mistake a lot of people make is that they want to make EVERYTHING a priority. There are some things that can be eliminated if you are honest with yourself.
Let's be honest:
- List 3 time wasters in your week.
- List 3 things you've always wanted to do.
- Pick one that you can do this coming week and eliminate one or more time wasters.
Your time gets filled up daily with activities. Some of them are essential to daily living - like eating, brushing your teeth, loving on your family and friends, but some of the activities are time wasters. Identify the time wasters and substitute something fulfilling...like creating art!
Let me know what a time waster you're going to eliminate this week. Post in the comments below!
