Do this before this year ends

What? In 15 days it'll be 2015. I knew this was going to happen.

What I knew in January 2014 was that this year was going to go by in a blink of an eye. You too?

I have a habit of fast forwarding my life in my mind.
So, for example, this is what I'll be saying in January 2015: "It's basically December 2015 and I'll be buying Christmas cards soon." That's how I work. With that in mind, I want to remind you to do this before the year ends.

Get a cappuccino or your drink of choice and make this super casual.

REFLECT
1. Look over your 2014
2. Ask: What was awesome? Learn from this.
3. Ask: What was not so awesome? Learn from this.

DREAM
What dream or big vision or desire does not leave your heart, your brain or your soul?

ACT
1. Continue the commitments that made your 2014 awesome.
2. Learn from the things that were not so awesome and make wise decisions for 2015.
3. Make time for that unshakeable dream and work towards it.

This is the quick and dirty of what I do before a new year. Then I implement on my calendar, because if it's not on there, it will not happen. But you know that already.

The most important thing for me is to take the dreams that have been given to me and take them seriously.

MY DREAM THAT LED TO THE FOLLOWING VIDEO

I did not dream of making a video of 6 portraits. My initial dream was a wakeup call.

This is what happened:

In 2011, I had an actual dream where I had died. I walked in my living room and people were mourning. As I looked around, I only saw two portraits of mine that were on the walls. This made me sad. My art, my portraits are a reflection of my heart and I wanted to leave more of that behind for my family and for my friends.

That dream inspired me to make 42 paintings by the following year when I turned 42 (42 at 42 Project.) Some paintings turned me on, some didn't. But I was prolific and soon my painting voice got clearer.

Out of the 42, there were  several portraits that became part of the Trenton 10 - stories and dreams of ten individuals living in the capital of New Jersey.

"HOLD FAST TO DREAMS, FOR IF DREAMS DIE, LIFE IS A BROKEN-WINGED BIRD THAT CANNOT FLY."

- Langston Hughes

These 6 portraits will be on exhibit at the ArtTimesTwo Gallery in the Princeton Brain and Spine Center, New Jersey until March 2015.
